Whale bone, useful stuff, actually relatively rare in the world. Let's begin what will be another post that gets way too long on me. The developers at Arkane are masters of their craft, I really enjoyed my time with the game.Loving the videos, loving the game. The missions and levels are so clever, your powers are so fun, and the game looks fantastic. I ended up very high on the chaos meter, and I learned to accept this.ĭon't let the negatives fool you though, Dishonored 2 is a tremendous game. I would start a mission trying to be as quiet and sneaky as possible, but once I set off an alarm I would blast away until everyone around me was dead, and then try and be sneaky again if the level allowed. You get the "bad" ending if you have too much chaos, and you miss a ton of interesting gameplay sets as well, just blasting through a cleverly setup area, rather than figuring out the riddle of getting through quietly. That leads directly to my second big criticism of the game, which is, while it gives you so much freedom, it feels like having high chaos is a "bad" or "poor" way to play, rather than just a different choice. The constant saving/reloading would break the immersion and make the game a lot less enjoyable. I found that I did not enjoy playing Dishonored 2 in that manner. Clearly, no one wants to start a mission all the way from the beginning over and over, therefore, if you want to keep your chaos low, you are forced quicksave constantly and then reload when you are spotted/things go awry. If you are set on keeping your chaos low, you will either need to reload your last save, or start the mission over. The enemies are pretty sharp, and can spot you very easily if you are not careful. Something I call "save tension" is probably Dishonored 2's biggest weakness. That being said, the story is super rich and detailed, and I'm sure that if you have recently played the original, it would make it even better. Dishonored 2 is a direct sequel, and it didn't really bother me that I didn't remember much of the original, the game does a good job calling back info from the first game that you would need. I remember almost nothing about the game other than it felt like a Nightcrawler simulator, and that I enjoyed it. I played the original Dishonored on its release a long time ago. I do not know if this is due to the game being patched (it has been out for a number of years now), or due to my personal setup, so your mileage may vary. According to reviews, I see many people had technical issues with the game, but besides from very brief and infrequent stutter/frame pacing issues, the game was fine for me. Discovering the nooks and crannies of each district is fulfilling, the developers did a great job in making them feel like parts of a real city, rather than video game "levels". The city and the environments are so detailed, it really helps cement the sense of place. The choices you make aren't just for show, as many things in the game will react and change based on how much chaos you cause as you complete your missions. There are always multiple ways to complete your mission as well. As you earn upgrades, you can focus on physical traits, or interesting abilities. You approach each mission how you see fit, sneaky and quiet, or just gunning everyone down. From the start, you get to choose which of two characters you would like to play as, determining the outcome of the opening cinema. Filled with secrets and puzzles in all of its nooks and crannies, Dishonored dares you to master its missions, finding all and being seen by none, but doesn't have an ego so big as to force you into seeing every bit of developer cleverness.įreedom and choice are the name of the game in Dishonored 2. Dishonored 2 is a master class in creating a living, breathing, environment and then giving the player the freedom to tackle their goals in the environment in whichever way they wish, and I am here for it, one hundred percent. The creators of Dishonored 2 had no such compunctions. As time goes on, and games become more expensive to make, sadly but somewhat understandably, developers and publishers have become averse to spending time and money creating things that only a small fraction of the playerbase will see.
